Paige + Peter | 6.24.2017
June of 2017 ended with celebrating with Paige and Peter. They chose to get married at Rockford’s newest wedding venue, The Standard. Paige is a Rockford native, so it was only natural to bring in many aspects of Rockford to the wedding. Paige even said “The most important thing to us for our wedding was to make sure our guests were happy and comfortable. We were so honored to have many of our guests traveling from out of state, and we wanted to make the trip memorable and give everyone a taste of Rockford, Illinois, which is a city that we love. It was also important for us to add unique and individual elements to our day and incorporate our family and friends as much as possible.”
One of the unique elements that they added were favors of mini gourmet bags of coffee from a local coffee shop and roaster that they love to go to, Rockford Roasting Co. They customized each of the little coffee bags with their names on them.
How They Met
Peter and Paige met at a local 5K race in Rockford, Illinois and crossed paths again on a dating app. Peter was new to Rockford, coaching cross country at a local college and attending graduate school there. Paige was working as a lawyer in Rockford. The day after their first date, Peter left Rockford to visit his family in New Hampshire for an entire month. During that time, they kept in touch every day and started to really fall for each other. After Peter’s visit home was over, he drove straight back to Paige’s house, and they had their first kiss on her front walkway.
Peter and Paige had recently moved to Chicago and they loved walking around exploring the city. One day, Peter suggested they walk along Lake Michigan. After a long afternoon of exploring and shopping, Peter asked someone to take their picture in front of the skyline, and then he knelt down and asked her to marry him!
Getting Ready + Details
Paige and her girls got ready at The Standard in the bridal room, while Peter and they guys got ready just down the street.
For attire, they wanted a modern but romantic and classic vibe. Peter and the rest of the groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos. Paige’s wedding dress was an ivory ballgown with horsehair trim and lots of beautiful floral embroidery. The bridesmaids wore matching charcoal grey dresses in a variety of styles.
As a wedding day gift, Peter surprised Paige with a custom clock that he made for her. Each hour had a sweet story to go along with it, and there was not a dry eye in the room as she read it.
Paige and Peter had their first look on the rooftop of The Standard. It was the perfect setting for the day!
First look with her dad
We love a good first look, but the ones between a bride and her father are just SO sweet!
For portraits we went to Nicholas Conservatory and Garden in Rockford on a boat! It was the perfect way to relax and enjoy the scenes from the river!
The ceremony also took place on the rooftop of The Standard. The bridal party entered from the conservatory and walked to the edge of the garden rooftop. The aisle of chairs was decorated with greenery from London Avenue Designs.
Paige and Peter had many special moments during the ceremony. Paige’s older brother officiated the wedding, and Peter’s sisters each did a reading. Their mothers also gave them roses during the ceremony.
They also had live music played for the ceremony and cocktail hour for their guests.
Catering is provided in house from Abreo, which is located just down the street from The Standard. They utilize local, farm to table ingredients for guests!

Reception Decor + Design
Paige and Peter both tend to like modern, but romantic and soft design, and neutral black, white, and grey. They were so excited when The Standard opened in Rockford months after they got engaged, and they fell in love with the giant chandeliers and modern industrial design. The Standard ended up being an amazing choice that their guests raved about, and the staff there was top-notch. The Standard is located right along the Rock River, which leads to beautiful views, and is situated between a ton of great restaurants, shops, and nightlife.
For florals, they chose greenery with pops of white peonies and roses to keep with the neutral look but to add some softness. London Avenue also supplied all of the gold accents for our vases and candlesticks, which gave the space a romantic and warm touch.
Paige and Peter designed their black and white paper table numbers and programs and printed them themselves. They also designed and made most of their signage and monogrammed elements, such as the bridesmaid hangers. Paige’s dad built a number of wood items, including the card box, and her mom worked with a local artist to build our welcome sign.
Paige and Peter are tried and true dessert lovers, so picking the cake was one of their hardest decisions. They live near a Nothing Bundt Cake location, and kept coming back to this option because it is so delicious. They were very happy with their choice and the guests also really liked the bite-sized bundt cakes.
A truly special moment to their wedding day was when Peter’s best friend Kyle sang and played their first dance song on the guitar (“500 Miles”).
We all headed up to the conservatory for dancing and music on the rooftop, however, mother nature had another plan. At that moment rain decided to come down. However, that didn’t stop us, we just moved the party inside of the conservatory. We also had a desert table for guests!
After the rain..
Thankfully the rain didn’t last too long, and it made for some gorgeous photos….
We asked Paige if she had any advice for couples planning their wedding currently…
“I really recommend having a day-of coordinator if at all possible. We really liked working with Jordan at Ever After Planning. We had a few small hiccups during the day, but I mostly had no idea and was able to totally focus on having an amazing day thanks to her (and my awesome bridesmaids)! ”
To all of the creative vendors who came together to form a team on pulling together this beautiful day for Paige and Peter, I love you forever. Their day would not have been the same without each of you.
