Ever After Love Stories

Ciera + Brennan | Luxury Mansion Wedding | The Armour House

I am over the moon excited to finally be able to showcase these images to you. Over the summer I set out to create something that was different from what I have been seeing day to day. After careful planning and designing, I found the perfect location for the project, The Armour House in Lake Forest Illinois. If you have never seen The Armour House I strongly suggest you check it out. The history of the property, the grand gardens and lawn, the staircase and the heritage as a whole is fascinating. When I first toured Armour House, Dean, their catering coordinator gave me a tour and explained all of the breathtaking details to me. I was in love from the start.

Once the date and location were set, I could begin curating our dream team of creatives professionals. Much like wedding planning, it is hard to bring together your team without a date and location, so that was obviously step 1! From there on, everything just fell into place. With a solid vision in my mind, I knew exactly who to turn to to help make the whole thing come to fruition.

Just like I do with my design clients I gave the project key words. Words that describe how I want the details and photographs to make you feel. These words came to me naturally as the design developed….Timeless. Elegant. Fresh. Soft. Romantic. From there on out, everything just fell into place.

Every touch point of this project was given thought and careful consideration. Which I think is very important for all brides to do. Think of your wedding as a story that you are telling. Carefully consider how each touch point of your wedding reflects this story.

Starting with your stationery..

I tell all of my couples that the invitation is the first real feel your family and friends have for your event. This sets the tone for the theme, aesthetic and color scheme as a whole. The styles of fonts you use can tell whether you are going for soft and romantic, or moody and industrial. Here, we paired with Natalie of Pink By Peach to create a breathtaking invitation suite and matching stationery. I first was introduced to Natalie after working with her for a destination wedding earlier this year, and I was in love with her work ever since.

If you go back to the keywords I had for this project, you will remember soft and romantic. This invitation suite and place cards were the perfect representation of this. The placecards for the table were hand written on pieces of silk, while the invitation itself was on the most beautiful frosted paper.

The Details..

While bridal details are important, I feel that groom details are equally as valuable. This is one of my favorite things about working with our photographer, Lindsey, because she takes the time to value both bride and groom details. You pour your heart into creating the perfect look, so having it documented, is the icing on the cake. For Brennan’s details we pulled in the soft blue tones into his tie and ribbon on his boutonniere. To add a masculine touch his ring, watch, tie bar, and cufflinks were gunmetal in order to pair with his blue suit.

For Ciera’s details I wanted something outside of the norm, so it was only natural to navigate towards rose gold. All of her jewelry matched and was rose gold toned.
We also gave her a “signature” scent. When I was a bride I received a piece of advice that just stuck with me. Go out and select a new perfume that you haven’t worn before, and wear it on your wedding day. After that wear it on special dates, anniversaries, birthdays…and it will remind both of you of the day you said I do!
My favorite bridal detail of all had to be the garter. If you have not heard of Julianna, The Garter Girl, you have to go check her out now. She crafts heirloom garters for brides that are simply breathtaking. I love watching her create custom garters from family heirlooms, moms’ wedding dresses, and more!

The Dress..

I can not tell you how much I love this wedding dress. Coming from Justin Alexander’s Signature Collection, this dress is a dream. {I also hear that it is one of the most comfortable dresses in the world!} Savana at Savy’s Chic helped us select this dress, and it was just perfect for the feeling we were going for.

Downtown Chicago…

After spending the morning at Chicago’s Ambassador hotel, we headed in to the heart of downtown for a few photographs. There is something so breathtaking about being downtown amidst all of the chaos and crazy, that I find just so calming and beautiful.

We also happened to find the most gorgeous backdrop for a few portraits. Ciera’s bouquet, crafted by Candice at Pollen and Pastry was just so luscious and full of detail and color.

The First Look..

From the moment I entered The Armour House, I immediately was dreaming of two things. The gardens and the stair case. The staircase at Armour House is actually 2 parts. For the first look, there was no better place than the upper level of the staircase. It gave me a little bit of a Titanic feeling, and I fell in love every minute of it!

Everything from the grand staircases on each side of the landing, to the windows and light…it was simply a breathtaking moment.

We also could not resist a romantic shot of Ciera in her dress. The detailing of this gown was so unique and romantic!

Armour House Staircase..

As I mentioned the staircase here is in 2 parts. You have the upper level which is the landing and then two individual staircases on each side, and then the lower level which enters the space where dining usually takes place for events.

I could not resist a grand design for the stairs, and Candice helped craft the exact vision.

This staircase is not only perfect for portraits, but also for a grand entrance in to dinner!

The Ceremony..

It was simply a no-brainer to utilize the grand gardens for the ceremony. The backdrop of fountains and the aisle of white flowers was perfect for the romance of the wedding. You also get such a grand entrance here as you exit the house and walk all the way down the aisle.

The Tablescape..

The table is truly where every aspect of the event comes together here. The plates and glassware that we used were actually my very first inspiration piece to set the tone. I love to find inspiration and ideas outside of Pinterest and magazines, so I often look to stores and product catalogs for fresh ideas. Here we used Arte Italica dinnerware, paired with etched glassware and flatware from Anthropologie. Candice of Pollen and Pastry did such an amazing job at freshening up the table with her perfectly crafted centerpiece and orchids adorning each place setting. Top it all of with our silk place cards and La Tavola linens, and this tablescape was an absolute dream to see come to fruition.

The Silk Backdrop..

I am such a huge fan of vignettes at weddings. I love little spaces to interact within and set a certain tone. This silk backdrop, which was handlettered by Natalie of Pink By Peach, was stunning for romantic portraits. It also could be used throughout the night for guests to take photos together!

The Cakes..

And, yes, I said cakes! Remember that grand staircase that I love so much? Well after grand entrances into the reception, the landing was the perfect place for the cake table. This way the cakes are truly displayed and presented in such a grand nature. Candice crafted multiple cakes for a grand, luxurious look!

Portraits..

As I mentioned The Armour House is full of heritage. Everywhere you look is a space that is perfect for intimate photographs…

The Video..

One thing I hear all the time from couples, is that they regret not having a wedding videographer. My biggest piece of advice…do it. Hire a videographer. Find the money. Because in 10, 20, 30 years you aren’t going to remember the cost. You are going to remember the intimate moments that started your future. The moments that fly by in a matter of what feels like seconds. Video captures something that just can not be put in to words… I will forever be thankful to Ashley and Brian of Higuchi Productions for capturing the mood and feeling of the day… I hope you enjoy this video as much as I do.. {Trust me, I watch it almost daily!}

To all of the creative vendors who came together to form a team on pulling this entire project together, I love you forever. This project would not have been the same without each of you.

WOW! Great job. I love the soft color palette but also all of the texture that was in the plates, invitations and event the venue (being a historic property and all). I also love that the couple did shots in the middle of the city! So cool!
