Ever After Love Stories

Lauren + Adam | 4.15.2017

Back in April we were given the honor to travel to Raleigh North Carolina to help Lauren and Adam bring all of their wedding dreams come true. Their wedding was simply gorgeous. Full of heartfelt details and color, that it is not surprising that it is featured over on  The Knot! I can not wait for you to read their story, as it will forever be one of my favorites.

The Proposal

Lauren and Adam met in middle school, though Lauren moved away for high school and they gradually lost touch. After reconnecting in 2012 Lauren and adam have been together ever since! On December 23, 2015, Lauren was getting ready for a Christmas party at their house when Adam asked her to come into the living room to look at a gift he was especially proud of wrapping. She noticed his cell phone propped up on the bookcase and in her mind was thinking, “Oh my god! Is it happening? It’s happening! Ahhh!” He had a note in his pocket and took it out to read (She saved it, of course). They celebrated with their favorite champagne then called their family with the good news. It was perfect timing since all of their friends were coming over that evening and it turned into an impromptu engagement party!

Stationery

Despite taking a calligraphy class a year ago with her matron of honor Lauren quickly realized that there’s a reason you hire out. Luckily she found the most amazing calligrapher on Etsy, Natalie from Pink + Peach. She turned to Natalie for any detail that needed her gorgeous handwriting. Natalie did all of the save the date and wedding envelope addressing, bridesmaid gift envelopes, marble tile escort cards, menu place cards, and more!

Fashion

Everyone thought she was crazy, but she ordered her dress online without ever trying it on, just 10 days after they got engaged.  Lauren had fallen in love (online) with the Isla dress by Australian designer Lisa Gowing, who isn’t carried here in the US. Lauren figured, what’s the worst that can happen — the dress doesn’t fit? She decides she doesn’t love it? (No and no!) So she pulled the trigger and bought it. It was even more gorgeous in person!

It had simple satin straps, but she opted to add seed bead-encrusted straps over the existing ones for a little extra shimmer.

As far as jewelry, right before the ceremony Lauren switched necklaces with one of her best friends and bridesmaids. She was wearing a simple white gold diamond pendant necklace and we decided it looked better with her dress than the subtle gold and diamond one she had on.

Adam wore a bright navy Hugo Boss suit with a crisp white shirt, blue plaid bow tie and cognac Cole Haan shoes. We wanted him to look tailored and modern, and the bow tie was a nod to North Carolina style. All of the groomsmen wore the same bow tie as Adam for a uniform look.

Getting Ready

Lauren and her girls got ready above the venue in a space called The Glassbox at 230 which is in downtown Raleigh. Respectfully named for its floor to ceiling windows, the space provided perfect natural light and room for getting dressed and ready.
Meanwhile, Men seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to wedding day pampering, so Adam surprised his groomsmen with a masseuse who came to their suite while they were getting ready.

Personal Florals

Nikelle from Wylde, did an amazing job on the floral design for the wedding. She has a beautiful studio in Raleigh just around the corner from Lauren’s office that she walks past every day, so it was a no-brainer to hire her. We adore her romantic, organic style and trusted her completely, so Lauren simply told her some of the colors they liked, what was planned for the wedding party to wear, and let her do her thing. Nikelle used a few white anemones with black centers and the contrast between them and the rest of the flowers was amazing. She also used garden roses, ranunculus and lots of greenery, sourcing locally as much as possible.

The First Look

Just outside of the Glassbox where the girls got ready, is where Lauren and Adam had their first look. Their first look was one of the most special moments of the day. It was amazing for them to be able to see each other, take a breath before the ceremony and focus on the reason for the day: the two of them.

The Ceremony

When Lauren and Adam began thinking about their wedding day, they knew that the most important part to them was the ceremony (which is why they booked their amazing officiant 16 months in advance). The ceremony took place in the Stockroom at 230 in downtown Raleigh. In front of all of their family and friends, underneath a custom installation made by Lauren and her mom. {More on that in a second!}

Custom Bar + Ceremony Installations

During the beginning stages of planning, Lauren walked into Anthropologie and fell in love with one of their hanging installations. It was so impactful and she instantly knew she wanted to have something like this over the bar at the wedding.  A year or so before the wedding, Lauren was wandering around Michael’s and stumbled on these massive, gorgeous silk peonies. Before Adam could stop her, She had scooped up 75 of them and was en route to the checkout line.

Lauren’s mom built three metal grids, each 2’x5’, and they spent a couple of Sundays weaving tons of faux greenery and silk flowers into them. We hung one grid over the bar, and hung two side by side for the ceremony area. Lauren also designed and created an acrylic bar sign that we suspended from the hanging floral grid over the bar. She thought it was important that people were able to see the choices before they got to the front of the line.

They knew they wanted to offer a variety of beer and wine so they opted to bring in their favorites. As a craft beer enthusiast — what guy isn’t, these days — Adam picked six different types to serve. Lauren and her matron of honor had fun wine tasting and eventually picked six favorites, as well.
Prior to the ceremony, sparkling rose was served to guests as they entered. Why wait until after the ceremony to start celebrating?!

Entryway Decor

She also purchased 8×10” sheets of acrylic with wood stands and used them to create standing signs for the ceremony programs, the cards/gifts table, and the “guest book” – which was actually letterpress toast cards that guests were able to use to write a message. They loved receiving all of the notes and now keep them in a box in our living room so we can reread whenever we want!

The Reception Decor

After the ceremony, guests were invited in to another part of The Stockroom to take place in cocktail hour. This allowed us time to flip the room where the ceremony was in to the reception space.

The Cake

Lauren and Adam opted for a three-tier all-white wedding cake from Sugar Euphoria. It had more of Nikelle’s gorgeous flowers cascading down. Lauren still can’t believe she cut into it, it was so pretty.

“DO YOU HAVE ANY WEDDING PLANNING ADVICE THAT YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH OTHER COUPLES PLANNING THEIR DAY?”

“First of all: hire amazing vendors, and preferably ones who have worked together before and know your venue well. Trust in their advice and their ability to pull off a stellar wedding. After all, they’ve done it more times than you have. Try to relax and have fun, which can sound like a tall order to a frazzled bride. It’ll be a perfect day because of the reason behind it – the marriage. Don’t freak out on anyone because “it’s my wedding day” is not an excuse. You should not regret a single thing about this day.”

Vendor Love

To all of the creative vendors who came together to form a team on pulling together this beautiful day for Adam and Lauren, I love you forever. Their day would not have been the same without each of you.

Those hanging floral arrangements are so cool! Loved that the invitations were black and white and more neutral and then the wedding day decor had pops of color but still very elegant! Great job to the team!
